I had a big bowl of watermelon left over from church on Sunday. It was my turn to make snacks, so I provided three options: a lovely fruit salad, some Trader Joe's cookies, and two pans full of the most decadently over-caloric coffee cake that anyone has ever thought to make.
It went down like this: the coffeecake was hoovered up in minutes. The Trader Joes cookies were likewise consumed. Two older ladies tried a splash of fruit to go along with their coffeecake, and I came home with a big, healthy bowl of fruit all for my very own.
Sigh. I tried.
So of course tonight I had to make a watermelon margarita or two. What, waste all that fruit? Or worse, eat all that fruit plain?
I always hear how much people love these fruity margaritas. Watermelon. Mango. Peach.
I'll tell you my favorite margarita recipe: buy very good tequila (I like that Corralejo in the blue bottle). Pour it in a shot glass. Sip and enjoy as you gaze on a lovely still life composed of bottle of Grand Marnier, an orange, and a lime. You can add a watermelon or a mango if you wish. THAT's my kind of drink.
Here's a link to a real watermelon margarita recipe because I feel sorry for those that were duped by my title into coming here. Caveat: I have not tried it, but it looks pretty standard.
Big news over at Linkateria today.

Mmmm. Sounds yummy. I hate to eat watermelon because of the texture but I love the flavor.
I suffer, I really do. It's been what? Two weeks since I got back from Thailand and already I'm mourning the fruit&veg abundance there. I can't explain how the watermelon was different, only that it was. It was also crisper and sweeter than any I've had before. I really don't want to think about the upcoming penury of winter when apples are all that's available. Unless you mind remortgaging the house for half a pint of really crummy strawberries. Little Miss Sunshine... Send me back to Bangkok and I promise to be in a better mood.
That is exactly the kind of margarita I love. It's kind of the same way I love s'mores - usually without the graham cracker and marshmallow. :-)
I'm with Stampy. Nothing goes with Tequilla better than an audience of church-lady-snubbed fruit.
Especially on the verge of winter.
I don't like mango.
The other night, I had this: a big glass of tequila with some lime juice. I never really liked tequila before. Do now!
I cannot drink tequila straight anymore. For one thing, every time I've done that before, I came home with a new boyfriend. Something tells me that just won't fly anymore.
I read this post over and realized that it doesn't make a heck of a lot of sense. I did make a watermelon margarita and tried it, and then wrote the post. That explains a lot about why it doesn't make any sense.
MGM - I dunno, you should give it a try. Might make an interesting blog post.
I'm with you. It's gotta be very good tequila, with just a suggestion of another flavor. Perhaps next time I'll squeeze a little lime on my fingers and that way I can get the aroma without annoying my tequila-loving senses.
mmmm. That sounds so wonderful!
