My college wasn't like this

Good God, I love Dr. Diana York Blaine so much. I am forever thankful for the controversy over her naked breasts that took me to her blog.

In Southern California, it is popular to bag on USC (also known as "University of Spoiled Children," for instance). It is like the Harvard of the west - people who went there let you know within 5 minutes of meeting them that they are alums. Annoying as hell. But the fact that she teaches there makes me hate USC so much less, and that is saying something.

As a native of the East Coast [caps intentional] and having lived on the West Coast for just as long, I can say unequivocally that USC is the Harvard of the West only in the minds of it PR staff. Harvard's rep is not for spoiled kids so much as super brainy, and I don't think anyone ever accused USC of having an excess of smarts. Actually, UCDavis is supposed to be contending--or was--for the Harvard of the West title.

Thanks for the link, though....

Jane, I wasn't comparing academics as much as the tendency of the alums to tell you where they went - immediately upon meeting you.

Great story. Thanks for the link.

It still amazes me how this society can get so fired up over tits.
