Wow.

I guess I struck a nerve with that talk about TV news.

Anyone want to comment on how bad mainstream radio is?

OMG. I once quit a job because of the radio. It was an FM "classic" rock station that played the same seven songs all day everyday. You could literally tell what time it was by what song was playing. But the morning drive time DJ was the worst...making horrible, hateful jokes about pretty much anyone that wasn't a white male. Nowadays, it's NPR or the sound of my own thoughts...

We have XM. Most of the time that I'm in the car, it's on XM Kids for my six year old. When she's not in the car, the radio is on NPR.

And I totally agree with your previous post about TV. I haven't watched the news on TV for a couple of years now. It just isn't news.

Sure. I live in Washington DC, one of the 10 biggest tv and radio markets in the US and the only "new" rock station plays more music from when I was in Jr. High than stuff that recorded in the last 15 years.

So, except for NPR, Sports Talk Radio and the station that does the traffic report every 10 minutes I quit listening to the damn radio.

It is as XM and Sirius made regular radio just give up.

I can't stand it. Working Girl hit it in the head. The same wretched seven songs over and over and over again make me want to rip my radio out of my car and toss it in front of a semi. I thought it was me getting old. Good to know others share my opinion.

I have serious ADD when it comes to the radio - I will only listen to music (which requires LOTS of channel surfing) or NPR.

I think what makes me most crazy is this station "Jack FM" (I'm in San Diego) - it's supposed to have the feel of you ipod on shuffle. But it's more like some apathetic crackhead playing a good song every once in awhile.

I gave up on radio a long time ago. My kids and I listen to books on CD in the car now. At home I either listen to news radio or we just enjoy the silence.

I do have my ipod to listen to when I am riding my bike. The lively music keeps me pumped lol.

Gah! Don't even get me started! Thank god for my FM transmitter and MP3 player, I'd lose my fraking mind.

Muse, we've got that station too. I thought it was short for Jack Mormon, because the local station is owned by a Mormon group. It's mostly just crap old rock.

But really, I guess I'll buck the system here too. We have a local station that plays good new rock and alternative, and has introduced me to more good new music in the last year than I'd ever find by myself. The djs are local and the weekend dj is a former member of Spinal Tap. And they always answer the phone when I call to request something (which I really only do so I can hear them say my name on the radio).
