The Very First Bad Holiday Sweater Contest

**Updated to be more ecumenical and inclusive!**

This is the most wonderful time of the year for awful fashion choices. Yes, you know what I'm talking about: the terrible Holiday sweater.
Christmas sweater spirit

To get into the Holiday spirit, I want to do a Holiday sweater contest. Email me your photo of you or a family member (suebobdavisATgmail) in a spectacular holiday sweater and I will post them for the world to see. Historical family photos especially appreciated. Let's make the photo deadline Dec. 15. Then we can have a couple days of voting.

To make it worth your time to dig up and scan dusty old photos or to dig out that sweater in the back of the closet, the winner will get either a $50 Peets, Starbucks or Target gift card, your choice, and, of course, glory.

Do Christmas PANTS count? Because my dad has the best pair of plaid bell-bottoms. He wears them every year and if I don't spend Christmas with him, my sister takes a picture with her phone and sends it to me. Because it is not Christmas without the pants.

I'd love to have a photo of the pants to post, but I am going to limit the competition to sweaters. Ok, I will take decorated sweatshirts and vests, but I draw the line there.

It should be one that your mother gave you too!

My mother has an entire collection of Christmas sweaters. And Halloween sweaters. And on and on and on. She's become one of THOSE women. She even has themed earrings - jingle bells and Santas for Christmas and, god help me, light-up Troll doll earrings for Halloween.

I shall peruse my photo files.

Oh, I'll have to do some diggin' but I'm sure I'll come up with something. Great idea!

Puts hands in front of eyes and cries "No nonon nonononononononnono!"

I hate Christmas sweaters. worse are sweatsuits.

What about Hanukkah sweaters, if such abominations are even made?

Oh, and I love that my word verification for this is "mismas" - so fitting!

I certainly never want to play the gender card or anything, but your sample picture is a guy....

I'm gay and I'm going to have to put the hand up for that one....

DUDE! off with the Christmas sweater! Aunt Lola wants it back!

Suzanne - Sure, ugly Hanukkah sweaters would be more than welcome, if they exist. I would hope that the Chosen People have better taste, though.

And Christopher, I hope the guy was wearing it ironically. He was working at Trader Joes and it was quite a sight. It was 3D, which you can't tell from the photo.

I understand. You need some standards ... I will find a pants picture just for you to laugh at.

Consider my kid ENTERED. Awesome.

I only hope that some good can come out of Grandma's atrocity of last year.

Yes, the pictured sweater is atrocious, but the guy wearing it sort of resembles the brother on "New Adventures of Old Christine"

I feel now that I must find some really atrocious Hanukkah sweater so that My People can be represented in this contest. For I read your comment about hoping that the Chosen People have better test, and lo, I thought about the things that I have seen in various communities in Brooklyn, and I believe that we are more than ready to match your challenge.

And I need to stop laughing aloud in computer labs.

Omg, I have seen some ugly ones in my day but it was before digital and might have been before I ever even put them in albums. Either way, this is gonna be a good one.

While I'm here I'm going to bow my head in shame and mumble something about asking you to come enter the contests on my site and to invite your readers to do the same.....*head hanging low*

I always look forward to seeing the tacky holiday sweaters wear to parties, but it's even more fun when you see them out and about. Great sweater!
