Graceless in things large and small

This is rough because I love me some Schmutzie, but I cannot stand her YEAR LONG meme of "Grace in Small Things."

The idea is that bloggers are supposed to post five things they are grateful for each day for a year. A whole year.

Many, many bloggers are going along with it, which kills me.

Whenever I go to a blog and find that little list, something like this:
1. Peach-scented shampoo
2. Leather car seats
3. Fluffy clouds
4. A smiling grocery cashier
5. No traffic on the way to work
...I die a little inside.

I am fine with gratitude. But a year of a forced march into contained and counted thankfulness, repeated over and over and over? It makes me feel spinny and ill. It is the antithesis of what I want from my blog friends.

Give me the real deal. The good, the bad, the funny, the sad. But you don't have to do it every day (unless you want to) and you don't have to count it, and you certainly don't have to feel compelled to reveal your gratitude in public every single day.

As they say on some horrible reality shows, I'm just keeping it real. Now excuse me while I go show Bret Michaels my implants.

Fuck you, I'm gonna show Brett my wax-job, so there!

P.S. I'm grateful for you, Suebob, but certainly not five times a day!

The good news is, knowing bloggers, this probably won't last all year.

So there's one thing for which you can be grateful.

That and silicone.

I held out for a long time on this one.. but this year has sucked sweaty goat balls SO fuckin' bad already I HAVE to find grace in something otherwise I'll probably OD on happy pills n' shit.

My CAPTCHA was idoodi and it make me laugh. I am stupid.

I'm all for finding grace, Sam. Just not for reading about other ppl doing it LOL

When a few of the bloggers I read signed up for this, I found myself hoping that they would start a second blog on which to be grateful for thick-cut potato chips and one perfect rose. But I don't think the project will last too long for most people. People entirely overestimate the amount of grace in the world.

You know, i never say anything about it, because lots of people i adore do them, but i pretty much hate all of those blogging things that constitute a regular feature. Wordless Wednesday, Friday Fragments, Serenity Sunday, Thursday Thirteen, Tuesday Tidbits.

If you did them all, you could successfully avoid all content.

In other words, it's lazy.

I've unsubscribed from a few blogs because of this. A lot of people have forsaken any actual posting in favor of listies, and if a blog consistently posts something that I'm really not interested in, I'm not going to keep reading it.

I think you can write a post about finding grace in small things and have it be so much more than just a list. Lists are dull. Even when they're lists of things I like, like books, I find myself zoning out pretty quickly.

I have no intention of doing that project. I'm too snarky.

I know you just love me because I am super bitter, besides the fact that I am also frequently asked to list my hobbies aka "dayfillers" due to my childless existence.

Although I have to admit I am a little grateful that the word verification just below this comment box is "pyhop." PYHOP.

You GO SueBob. It's nice to think of those things, but every day... My first would be 1. I'm grateful I don't have to post this everyday!

But I'm grateful for Suebob at least 365 times a year!

did you win the lottery yet?

ITS GOOD FOR YOU! Even I am doing it.

I can't even do nablopomo. Posting for a YEAR? About things I'm grateful for? Holy cow, at some point it would devolve from stuff I'm grateful for to stuff I think is kinda cute to stuff that doesn't make me gag to stuff that isn't Sara Palin.

But I do admire the tenacity of those willing to do it themselves.

I so hear you! A year is friggin' long, even when grateful!

I, new to your blog, completely agree. I've unsubscribed to every single blog I read who is doing these things. Not just the "Grace in Small Things" (which makes me want to chew tinfoil and stab myself in the eyes with hot, pointy bitterness), but all of the things meno mentioned - Wordless Wednesdays, Monotone Mondays, Tone Deaf Tuesdays.

Be reflective. Take care of yourself. I just don't want to read about it every living day.

OH GOD THANK YOU FOR SAYING THIS.

WORD! Thank you for saying it!

I totally appreciate the intention behind it. It's nice, especially when you're having a bad day, to look at the good as well.

But keep that shit to yourself and not all over the internet.

THANK YOU! I think everyone should find grace in their everyday life. I think that's what Schmutzie's intention was, to encourage that. But... It's annoying me to no end because I don't really care and don't want it to come through my reader.

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. Oh damn, did I need that laugh.

I'm doing it, but I'm not listing, I'm actually writing a short paragraph and not every day, maybe twice a week. Also I'm not doing it at my blog, instead you can set up a gage right at the site. For me, it's just a little reminder to be positive every once in a while instead of being my usual pessimistic self. But I can see how it gets old if you see the same list format every day on blogs you normally like to read.
And Sister Wolf's comment made me laugh.

Thank you for allowing me to meta-comment since I have made a vow to never, ever meta-blog, which has become much easier since I never post anyway.
