Toys

When we come home and I let Goldie out of the back of the car, the first thing she does is to run and grab a squeaky toy.

Then, if the neighbor dogs are out in their yards, she parades up and down, tossing her head in the air as if to say "Look what I have! I have a TOY!"

I was doing some reading up on dog behavior and it said that female dogs often like to brag about their toys to other dogs.

Wow, we aren't really much different, are we?

Girl dogs and girl people. My dog has a squeaky hedgehog and I have a Superhero necklace. Some women collect handbags. Or shoes. And then go parade them around.

Hey, look at ME! Look what I have!

Funny little creatures, aren't we?

What I love about dogs is how totally unselfconscious they are about EVERYTHING. Sunny does the toy thing when people come to visit -- she pulls them ALL out of her basket and runs around the house with each of them in her mouth at least once before throwing herself at the visitors' feet to beg for attention, which she *always* gets.

I mean, isn't that what we all WANT to do with people we want to like us, or that we really like?

I feel like everyone should have a dog just to witness that kind of joy every day. I do.

That's really interesting. Now I feel a little justified when I show off. See? It's biology. :D

Dogs are great. My Peanut likes to tease other dogs about "being outside." When we are outside, if he sees a dog looking out the window or watching us from a screend in porch, he'll run really close and in a zigzag pattern. I imagine this is dog language for, I'm outside and you're not!

I'm not quite sure I show off when I'm wearing new shoes....ok I do> But like Des says, it's biology right!?

So true... I had a cat that used to bring all his toys into the living room to show guests... he got upset if the guests tried to play with them, but he was bound and determined to show them all off.

I am finding that I am unnaturally attached to the pets of my bloggy friends. I LOVE Goldie and posts about Goldie. I love that you love her so much, and that she loves you right back - maybe because we are both people without children, but people with pets. I love my Foxy they way you love your Goldie, and all is right with the world.

I'm with Jessica, I love Goldie. And I'm all about your observations because you are the kind of caretaker who drives Goldie around to avoid the sound of fireworks. That is puppy love.

My dog is a boy, so he doesn't just want ANY old toy is his mouth. He wants a ball. And he wants you to throw it. Sooner rather that later. In fact, right now.
