Movie Review: Friends with Money

OMG is there anything more annoying than Santa Monica liberals? Other than a MOVIE about Santa Monica liberals??

90 minutes. Nothing happens, except for whining. That part is incredibly realistic, because we have friends who are Santa Monica liberals and with them it is pretty much all whining, all the time, too (their kid is allergic to dairy, soy, rice, wheat, nuts and chicken. WHO is allergic to CHICKEN?)

After not being able to get a decent date for the whole film, Jennifer Aniston ends up with the fat dude. That part is not so incredibly realistic.

Suebob says two thumbs down. Annoying as hell.

Why is it crappy? From your description, it sounds like a barometric reading of the country's political climate. Millions of voices whining, a sorry amount doing, lots of doing being done unto us. Apparently we like this kind of thing. I refuse to read a single polisci blog unless it's authored by someone who actively does something with their beliefs other than kvetch. And THAT is my strident little rant for the day. Thank you.

What were they wearing?

Is it even possible to be allergic to chicken?

That's like be allergic to the color blue.

Ya, overall it was self indulgent, but I did enjoy it. Especially Frances McOrmands character (not washing her hair). And personal trainer dude was such a pig he made me laugh.

Well, I just had to do some Google research, and it turns out that in very, very, very rare cases, someone can be allergic to the meat of chicken. More commonly, the protein in chicken can interfere with the absorption of some medications, and breaded chicken contains wheat and eggs which are more likely causing the allergy. Just so ya know.

Another movie I won't bother watching. So glad you're out there, seeing these movies so we don't have to.

I had totally forgotten until you mentioned the chicken allergy that my sister dated a guy who was allergic to poultry. Our Thanksgivings when he was around were very weird.

I'm allergic to chicken (remember my comment about your gassy post? yeah - it gives me terrible gas...) And you had to guess saying something like that on the internet would bring all us chicken-haters out of the woodwork.

Anyway, I saw it and I didn't absolutely hate because I liked too many of the actresses too much. I have a special crush on Jennifer Aniston and her flat iron.

I just think it is pathetic that we have come to expect so little of movies. To me, a movie needs to be a story that moves along, not just a collection of vignettes. Movies like this are like real life - which is not what I go to movies for.

Mignon - that is not an allergy. That is an intolerance, and while it is a good reason to avoid chicken, it isn't a condition that renders you UNABLE to eat chicken.

Exposure to allergens result in some specific consequences - itching, hives, restricted breathing, etc.

I have to avoid peanuts because my body has decided it doesn't want to digest them, but I don't have a peanut allergy.

This is the cranky ass copy editor coming out in me. I really missed my calling.

I stand corrected! You CAN be allergic to chicken. Who knew?

Do I think my Santa Monica friends have a child who is allergic to chicken and all that other stuff too?...I kinda doubt it.

Yup. I kept wondering if there really ARE people like that, and figured it had to be a california thing. I liked that the women (except for anniston) weren't botoxed into oblivion though, and had some wrinkles and an actual facial expression or two. And although it is unrealistic, I did like that she went for the fat guy, but I have to say any character development was completely, well, lacking.

I guess my real gripe isn't that Aniston's character went for the fat guy - but that she went for the fat boring guy. Of course, her character was kind of boring, too.

Okay fine! I'm intolerant! Of EVERYTHING!! No, but really, I had those scratchy allergy tests done a while back and broke out in hives for a majority of the food portion. Milk, chicken, fresh vegetables, oranges, umm - much more but I'm getting it mixed up with my grocery list. So whatever. I really just wanted to keep talking about farting.

I've never seen the movie, but I'd like to state for the record I went for the fat guy.

Well, he's not fat. But he'd definitely be considered so in Hollywood! ;)
