Just a question

If you will so indulge me, who do you like for president?

And why?

(And why is it that the people with great ideas - to me - are always considered people who are nutballs who can't possibly win because they are so out of touch? I know I'm a freak, but am I THAT much of a freak?)

I agree almost 100% with Kucinich, but unfortunately he's a wackdoodle with an Oompah Loompah's chance of winning. I'm frankly torn between the other three Dems. I actually agree with more of Edwards' policies, but I would LOVE to see a woman or an African-American in the office, and I'm weighing exactly how important that is to me.

I, too, am in almost 100% agreement with Kucinich, but don't consider him viable. However, even if he were, I probably wouldn't actually vote for him, since I am refusing to vote for any more major party white men until someone who is not one of those things is elected.

So I'm supporting Obama.

Suzanne from CUSS makes a good point regarding this. She's i London right now so I'll make her point for her and she can elaborate if she wants when she comes back.

This administration has fucked up everything so badly that whomever is elected next is kinda screwed no matter how they good. It would be a shame if it was Obama or Hillary because then *those kinds of people* will automatically associate all problems with either race or gender. I would hate for any of those to happen.

As for myself, I like Kucinich just because he would be the most fun to watch parodies of on SNL.

I attended the last Democratic debate in Las Vegas and out of all of them Joe Biden wowed me the most. He answered well and on point and did it all without skirting around the issues. When Wolf said "yes or no" he was able to answer. He won't win, because that's just how American politics is; as cliquey as high school.

This should shock your readership, but you asked.....

In order of preference....
1. McCain..living American most qualified to be Pres.
2. Hillary... smart,tough,and a pragmatist.
3. Giuliani...most talented executive in America, but I worry about the people around him.

Now go ahead and rip my head off...

Kucinich and Biden have most impressed me, for a variety of reasons -- Heather's point about Biden answering questions with 'yes' or 'no' among them -- but neither will win.

The most repugnant to me is Rudy Guiliani, and my husband and and I have very honestly considered leaving the country if he wins. I just ... I find him disgusting. I've never seen a more insincere, unqualified human being, and I actually can't believe he's running for president, I really can't.

I love -- LOVE -- Obama's optimism, vision and charisma, but he's too green. Way, way too green -- I just want him to stand UP for something already, and use some strong language, take a real stance, SOMETHING.

I am mostly neutral on Hillary.

John Edwards is who I'm supporting. I'm another one that agrees with Kucinich, but he's such a nutcase, I just can't even think about him as a possibility. Of the others, Edwards is the most grounded, the most eloquent about poverty and healthcare, which are my two biggest issues, and has more experience than Obama and less slick 'insider' crap than Hilary, who I just can't like.

If I were going by gut, it would be obama - but I haven't really done my homework yet and (ugh) I guess it's time to start reading again. I agree with Super Des - the Repubs are probably praying for Hillary so they can start their whine/bash fests.

I'm pretty much on the "Kucinich is the best choice but he's got a snowballs chance" camp. :(

So, I'm probably going for Edwards. Aside from Kucinich, Edwards has the ideas I agree with most, especially in regards to health care, which I feel is a really pressing issue. He has the most fleshed out and realistic plans so far of any candidate and that makes me feel more confident in his abilities. Plus.......he's hot.

The count so far:
Kucinich: 7 who love him but who know he won't make it

Obama: 1 yes 2 maybe

Edwards: 2

Biden: 2 who love him but who know he won't make it

McCain: 1

Clinton: 1 maybe

Me - I know i won't vote for Giuliani or Clinton in the primaries, but other than that I am up for grabs. I want someone to impress me. I guess I should actually watch the debates on YouTube, huh?

I think it's time for America to elect a woman or a non-white leader. That said, I still like the idea of Hillary's husband as a prez better than the idea of Hillary. Obama is great...but needs more time in the trenches. I've been partial to Edwards from the beginning, but I think this ridiculous nation can't wrap its head around the idea of electing a man whose wife might not live out his first four-year term. What I don't want to do is throw my vote behind someone who will only divide up the pool of Democratic votes so that some Republican slides through (or steals the election the way Bush did during the first go-round). I'm proud to say that my two oldest sons will be 18 and 19 in this election and will both cast Democratic votes in their first duty as voters for an American president. It thrills me.

I like Edwards, but I'll be honest - I'm just voting for the Dem this time around, whoever it is, and keeping my fingers crossed!

For one of the first times ever, I'm absolutely torn. I relate most to Edwards but I'm swayed by wanting the candidate who best can win and I'm not entirely sure if that's him. How's that for waffle-y?

As for Angel - geez, woman. Talk to a New Yorker before you believe Guiliani's own hype. The guy had like a -649% approval rating as mayor. Or don't believe me - wait til you see what NYFD and NYPD have in store for him if he has a viable campaign. They blame his pitiful executive skills and horrible mismanagement of safety resources for the extensive deaths at the WTC.

Um, what I mean is...go Guiliani! You go and get your party's nomination!

I'm waffly about the candidates. I love Obama, but like most others, don't think he has enough experience. I've tried so hard to like Hilary because I love her husband so much, but she just turns me off. I like Edwards, too, so for now, I'd say I'd probably vote for him.

I will not be voting for any Republican because, IMO, they're all just varying grades of suckiness. I don't like any of them.

I wish Al Gore would run. I'd vote for him in a heartbeat.

I was a college freshman when Geraldine Ferraro came to campus on a campaign stop. I was so excited, so filled with awe that I had a chance to see the first woman who could be elected vice president. Of course we know how that turned out. I still have the campus paper with the articles about it tucked away in my footlocker. And so I feel some sort of innate obligation to vote for Hillary, despite my doubts. I like Edwards (awesome wife, too) and Biden (makes sense) but the womb factor may triumph.

Dear mom 101,

RS is going to kill me for dragging controversy into her blog, but I feel I must respond:

1. I find myself quite flattered that you assume I am female. Alas, I am not.

2. Perhaps you misunderstood, I said Rudy G. was my 3rd choice, and a distant 3rd at that.

3. I am perplexed (as Ann Landers used to say ) at the comments re: "I love Bill Clinton, but I can't stand Hillary" I am unaware of any policy differences between them, so why the ambiguity? Surely it can't be for superficial reasons of personal style ?

4. Regarding Rudy G.'s responsibility for the death toll in lower Manhattan, thanks for straightening me out. All this time, I thought it was caused by planes flying into buildings and stuff.

In a perfect world, Kucinich. But this ain't a perfect world, so probably Edwards. (I wish I could vote for his wife.) Hillary leaves me cold...but you should see the way even the mention of her name raises hackles in my part of the country. I think the Republicans will come out to vote in greater numbers than ever if she's the candidate, just to vote against HER.

Isn't it awful - I distrust all of them. My leanings are liberal but my fear is that this two-party system is broken. They're all slaves to the mighty dollar.

If pushed, I'd say Edwards. He has a zeal I haven't seen in a long while and I like his focus on domestic policy. While not an isolationist by nature, I feel that it is time once again to focus the light on the underbelly of our own country, where the divide between rich and poor grows every day.

As a New Yorker, I'm backing Mom101 in explaining what it was like living under his dictatorship. The man is a HORRIBLE manager. Since he always brings up 9/11, it's hard not think about what a bad decision it was to build the Office of Emergency Management IN the World Trade Center after it already had been targeted by terrorists. So yes, it is true that the planes crashing into the building caused the awful death and destruction of that day, but the chaos and catastrophe certainly was NOT managed well by Hizzoner. Nor was the rest of the government at other points during his terms, which was crippled by many open vacancies in City agencies to save money. If anyone thinks Bush doesn't listen to reason, just try living under Giuliani.

Anyway, enough of that diatribe. My husband is continually insisting that the next president will (and should) be Gov. Richardson. I like Richardson, I like Edwards, and I like Obama. I'd be happy with any of those three.

Mostly at this point, I just want the republicans out of office. With that in mind, I want the Democrats to nominate someone who can win (but I'm rather non-idealistic and cynical that way). In the primaries, I'll probably support Hillary, because I think she has the best chance of defeating whoever the republicans nominate.

That said, while I consider Hillary a great improvement over Bush, I'm not particularly enamored of her in general. Obama is my favorite candidate, but I think he's too intellectual to actually win. He will need to "kick it up a notch" or something to win over the masses. I generally agree with Kucinich, but agree with others that he's too "out there" to win. John Edwards is ok, but I like his wife better.

Good question!

Edwards! I like his wife (the reverse being the case for the Clintons) more than him but I appreciate him taking on the 'Corporate Democrats.' I so hope he pulls through in Iowa.

Isn't it refreshing to have several competent candidates to choose from? Here's what I'm thinking today...
Clinton - nope too pro big business. Kucinich, aw shucks, he's so cute. Love his policies, but a bit concerned about his -um- charisma? Obama is encouraging. Biden is a great speaker. But these days I'm seriously considering Bill Richardson. Peace, environment, farming, civil liberties, women, it's all good.

BipolarLawyerCook said...

Bill Richardson, then Joe Biden, then Edwards. Bill Richardson needs to be a woman, basically. But I will hold my nose and vote for the Dems' nominee in the Nov. 08 elections, whomever it is.

None of them. At least, not yet. I'm fairly disillusioned across the board.
