What IS that?

I never talk about work here but today I will make an exception.

I had lunch with a friend yesterday and said "I'm so happy at work lately that I don't know if it could get any better. And if it does, wow, I am excited to see what that looks like."

THAT is a good feeling.

Today was Fruit Day at work. My division of my company is so awesome that they buy us fruit to eat, because they want us to be healthy. So on Thursday, when we are all in the office (because we get to work at home two days a week), we get fruit. Isn't that cute? (They also pay for my gym membership. Yes, they do!)

We came back from lunch and our big bunch of bananas was GONE! Obviously someone from one on the fruit-free divisions who surround us was jealous of our fine fruit! Scandalous!

Rachel and I went hunting for our bananas like chimps on a rampage. We decided that if someone were stupid enough to steal our bananas, they might be stupid enough to store them in one of the three refrigerators in our kitchen area.

We opened the first fridge and got knocked back a few feet. It was like the gates of hell had opened and we got a whiff of one of Satan's farts.

What IS that? It is a funk that only an office fridge can produce, a fridge shared by 200 people, none of whom want to take responsibility for That Thing rotting in the corner.

Rachel and I hightailed it back to our cubicles, bananaless but thankful that we had all pitched in about 6 months ago and bought our own little, funk-free fridge.

I love that companies are doing more of that. I work in a small office and my boss does that sort of thing as well.
Now, who took those bananas?

I love the fruity Thursday idea, but I'm a little disappointed in their prosaic choice of bananas. Do you ever have anything more exotic?

It's absolutely hilarious that someone would steal bananas. I love the image of you and your colleague going on the great banana hunt!

Deep secret I am telling to no one but the internet: I cleaned out my fridge last week, and I found a container of chocolate milk in the back. It felt a little... chunky, so I checked the expiration date. It expired last Christmas.

I think I saw it move at one point.

Susan C - we had some Santa Rosa plums, too, but no one stole those!

I'm trying to picture someone actually trying to hide bananas. It would be a pretty bulky thing to have to conceal....

Free fruit + gym membership? I'm so jealous.

There is nothing more foul than an office fridge. Ugh.

I would have gone looking through people's garbages for banana peels...

It's not a fridge, it's an eco-system.

It sounds like your job rocks! I say the bananas are looong gone.

It was great to run in to you in the bathroom at BlogHer! Sorry it's taken me weeks to come over. I hope your talk went well.
