In which her head explodes

How deluded are some evangelicals? Check this commentary from Mark Driscoll on the Ted Haggard sex scandal:
Most pastors I know do not have satisfying, free, sexual conversations and liberties with their wives. At the risk of being even more widely despised than I currently am, I will lean over the plate and take one for the team on this. It is not uncommon to meet pastors' wives who really let themselves go; they sometimes feel that because their husband is a pastor, he is therefore trapped into fidelity, which gives them cause for laziness. A wife who lets herself go and is not sexually available to her husband in the ways that the Song of Songs is so frank about is not responsible for her husband's sin, but she may not be helping him either.
Exsqueeze me? Because wifey gains a few pounds and doesn't do her hair, Reverend Dorkwad is going to start dreaming of dudes? I just do not think it works that way.

Gentlemen, care to weigh in? Does the sight of your wife in baggy sweats make you start dreaming of Lance Bass?

All joking aside, doesn't Driscoll fairly seethe with hostility to women? First, they trap men. Then they turn them gay. Yikes.

*******

I hate to rain on the happy happy joy joy election parade, but is anyone else flamingly pissed that bans on gay marriage passed in every state but one where they were on the ballot? Homophobic idjits. Grrrr.

******

In other news, it is Red Stapler's 1 Year Blogiversary. Yes, one year of spew and silliness. It has been a blast. Thank you for your support.

I think normal men wouldn't worry about their wife gaining some weight or even adding a few wrinkles.
But then what do I know. I'm not a pastor..

First, I'm with you, lusting after guys has nothing to do with wife beautiful or not...that puzzle piece doesn't fit. Second, I think fidelity is supposed to transcend physical looks, in fact, I believe that love is supposed to too. I wonder if this guy has ever read his Bible, because the one I read expressed that about love. Lastly, yes I'm pissed! I couldn't believe how many states have voters with sticks up their butts! Jeez. Can't we just let people love each other?

I thought sex was supposed to be a dirty, awful, no-no in the first place... are pastors supposed to have satisfying, free, sexual conversations and LIBERTIES with their wives?
Isn't it kind of un-christian to say that their wives have 'let themselves go'?
Exsqueeze me, indeed. Ugh. And the same-sex marriage thing just makes my head hurt. ARE THEY HURTING ANYONE??? Cha, i think no.

Congrats on 1 year!

Can you even have any type of "free conversation" with an evangelical pastor? And I'm not even asking about one that ends in utter sexual satisfaction.

Amazing, yet not surprising.

No matter how you slice it, they'll always find a way to blame the women, eh? If only we never got older, didn't gain a few pounds and would devote ourselves entirely to looking good for a man, all the world's ills would be healed.

What a bunch of bullroar!

:)

Peace,

I thought his remarks pretty much blamed the wives for any kind of infidelity. Seriously - they "let themselves go" because they are married and can count on their husbands being faithful... particularly if their husband is a pastor. WTF? I'd like to ask men who think this way: Excuse me but where is YOUR fucking sense of responsibility for your choices/actions? It has nothing to do with anyone else, asshat.

I'm equally annoyed by the ban on same-sex marriage... in some ways we've come so far as a country and in so many ways we have not.

Happy blog birthday!

OH! So it's the wife's fault when the husband turns out to be a drug toking hypocrite.....I did not know that. Good thing they let me in on this secret now. And for all these years I could have created a ticking time bomb in my own husband with every Twinkie I was stuffing into my face. Thank you sir for enlightning THIS wife....I've gained a whole of 5 pounds this year-I better join a gym quickly-my hub isn't pastor but.....you never know....

1) GAH!! "...they sometimes feel that because their husband is a pastor, he is therefore trapped into fidelity" Um, no. It's because their husband is a husband, moron!

2) Flamingly pissed, yes indeed.

3) Happy blogiversary!! (I'm at about 1½ years of inane rants and "reverse psychology", as one of my readers characterized it.) Kiss your Swingline for me.

4) How's your mom? Did they mess with her color vision too? :>

Happy blogiversary! I wore the red stapler shirt today in your honor. (OK, that's a lie - I didn't know about the blogiversary when I got dressed, but I am wearing it today.)

And Driscoll vile and evil idiots who misunderstand their role as "protecting" marriage are vile. It is a sad world we live in. No wonder I don't want kids. There's no guarantee that they'd turn out like Suebob and other awesome people, and too much bad influence out there to make them into Driscolls.

I just raed this to my boyfriend, who can be a sexist ass in his own right, and he said, "No, not Lance Bass - Justin Timberlake."
This is the second time this week he has "mentioned" Justin Timberlake - I think I should be concerned.

"Lean over the plate and take one for the team"
mayhap he really meant, "lean over the couch and take one for the team"

What an idiot. Those damn woman are just to blame for everything since that apple incident in the garden o' Eden.

Happy blogiversary!

And yes, I saw that all (except good old AZ) decided that they should be firebombed.

People are idiots, for so many reasons, I can't even go into it.

But I will, just a little.

Did it ever occur to anyone that maybe the wives "let themselves go" BECAUSE they are not getting any attention?

I just wanted to say thanks for your supportive comment on my site today. It's been a trying week and I've found the most comfort and support in my blog friends, and that means a lot to me. This blogging stuff really is kick ass.

Mark Driscoll sounds like an ass. Maybe he's projecting something going on in his life onto Haggard's situation. Prick.

Happy ANniversary. And yesh on the crazy pastor guy. You know... I'm linking this and sending it to a woman who's hubby is a pastor. I'm pretty sure she'd have an opinion on this asswipe.

belledame222 said...

Ha! Sadly, I've heard that rationaliz-erm explanation before. yes indeedy. wifey has lost her girlish figure, which makes hubby go after the boys who, um, haven't lost their...girlish...figures...yet?

oh.

don't you hate it when that happens? mebbe Curves needs to start a new program: "Thin Thighs and a Penis in Thirty Days!"

praise the Lord and pass the Slim-Fast! bless his heart.

I ricochet blame: what is it about pastors that they don't provide sufficient incentive to their wives to stay trim?

Speaking of being trim, heavy folks increase their risk of colon cancer by 50%. We all have to slide into the grave, but colon cancer is one of the very worst slides: it's like the biggest waterpark slide, except instead of being smooth, it's imbedded with glass.

As far as all the homo-bigotted amendments, this is a time of widespread shame.

Happy blogiversary! Mine is coming up sometime later this month.

And ugh, I hate how women are always the ones blamed for anything a man does. Because clearly they can't think for themselves, right? So if a pastor were to let himself go, could the wife then have affairs with other women because he didn't take care of himself? Yeah, I didn't think so.

paintandink said...

Happy Blogiversary and yes, am embarrassed to live in Virginia, as far as the amendment goes, but am also proud that we voted in a new Senator. There's a sigh of relief.

I AM a Pastor's wife. Send this guy to me. Please.*evil grin*

I'm so irked by that excuse. Blame the wife because she let herself go. Ugh. It's inferiating. Why is it always our fault that a man can't be faithful?

Happy Blogiversary, by the way!

As a man, as it says on my CALIFORNIA DRIVERS LICENSE, which of course proves it, I can say that yes there is a correlation between physical attractiveness and sexual desire [see the Wiki post on libido, for example.] So I get his point. It is well said? No. Is it relevant in the context of Ted Haggard? No. But the guy has a point. His timing is, as is the case for most clergy, flawless.
