A little help

The furor over the Virginia Tech shootings has already begun to die down, but mental illness will not go away. I venture to say that all of us are affected, even if we are not aware we are affected.

I have decided to join this year's NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) Walk. Any support would be appreciated. Go here to make an online donation.

I know that there are a lot of good causes to go around, and that you can't donate to them all. But to me, this year, this one is special because with more awareness and more help, maybe 32 intelligent, productive people would be in class today and another would be getting the treatment he had needed for so long.

What a great cause to support. (I plan to donate. If I don't by the end of this week, please remind me. Cause that means I've forgotten.)

And maybe...just maybe...when a person is considered a danger to himself or others...the HIPAA laws are sidestepped.

Imo the worst part is this has happened and will happen again and again because unless guns are as avaiable as candy we'll lose democracy - you know, like what's happened all over western Europe and Japan, how they're all ruled by bullying authoratarian regimes, in sharp contrast to the US administration.

Besides, like the NRA says, we have to uphold the Second Amendment. This young man, like those before him, had clearly bought his gun to participate in a "well regulated militia" to help uphold "the security of the state."

We need Minutemen like that at the ready now just as we did in Revolutionary times.

Ouch... somebody help me pry my tongue out of my cheek now...
