Sleep dysfunction

I am making preparations to go to baseball spring training in Phoenix in March. Anyone else going?

I always think fondly of Phoenix because I got a really good night's sleep there, the last full night of sleep I can remember. It was in 2003 at the Sheraton. Man, those Sheratons have some nice beds.

I am, to put it mildly, a terrible sleeper. Verging on violent. I regularly wake up with blankets tossed on the floor, pillows scattered, even pillowcases removed.

I thrash, I snore, I toss and wake up and walk around.

I feel sorry for anyone who has to sleep in the same room with me.

There are many, many reasons I am not dating.

How do you sleep?

I love hotel sleep. Those heavy drapes (that you'd never really want in your house) no pets, or distractions, etc. I like it so much that I don't even care about the sperm filled bedspread-:)
I actually admire people who can sleep that well at home.

I don't sleep well or deeply. I think having children completely ruined my body's natural ability to sink into a deep, uninterrupted sleep. I'm now a chronic insomniac.

However, I do sleep quietly and mostly, motionlessly.

Husband and I don't sleep together and never have because he snores like a freight train, AND he thrashes around AND he insists on untucking all the covers and rolling up in them like a burrito. It drives me insane.

When I get out of a bed, I can literally, pull up the corner and it's made. When Husband gets out of a bed, I must take everything off and start over. Again, maddening. He makes his own bed most mornings because he knows how much it irritates me.

I can't sleep in hotels or anyplace different really.

Not well. Chronic pain has a lil' somethin' to do with that... but, still!!!

I'm with blog antagonist... since I've had kids, I couldn't tell you what sleeping soundly is like... save for those nights Jack Daniels has been with me ;)

I'm a very light sleeper who is accustomed to white noise, so I ordinarily don't sleep well at all in hotels, whether because of the silence or because of any minor noise that a roommate might make. However, when I roomed with you at BlogHer I slept just fine, so you couldn't have been doing anything THAT disruptive.

Useless rambler - yes, my back pain has a lot to do with it. And shoulder pain. Wrist pain. Neck pain...all that.

Average Jane - I was soooo paranoid about snoring! I took that snore stop stuff and tried to sleep on my side...

Is there any chance you have sleep apnea? I only ask because my husband has it and getting that C-Pap machine seriously changed his entire life. He became a new man.

That said, I'm with antagonist, I haven't slept solidly since I got knocked up. I currently share a full size mattress with a 20 month old. I would complain, but really, how much longer am I going to get to snuggle a cherub all night?

Soundly. My husband is worried that he will have a lifetime of nighttime duty with our future kids. I already sleep through the puppy whining and he's afraid I'll be able to do the same with a crying child. (I'm thinking motherly instincts might kick in? We'll see...)

That's so funny. I am the exact opposite. I sleep in one spot an barely move...unless I'm drunk. Then, I'm told, I'm a thrasher but still, all the linens stay on the bed. I sleepwalk when I'm very sick, or at least I did when I was a kid, and that's about it. Even now, I'm the sole human at my house and I sleep on one side of the bed..the pets take the rest of it.

I curl into a little ball, bunch the covers up around my face and shoulders and basically turn into a cocoon. I'm a cover hog and have been known to make little noises from within my cocoon but I am a silent sleeper, though a light one.

I go in waves. Some weeks I sleep like a log... other weeks I sleep like a baby (wake up every 3 hours and cry). My WORST habit is that it usually takes the TV for me to sleep. I am sure my electric bill would go down if I could just count sheep or something.

I am like blog antagonist - i can get up in the morning and pull one corner up and voila! the bed is made.

I toss and turn almost constantly. The cats learned early on that they had to sleep on his side of the bed or else they'd get rudely rearranged in the middle of the night.

Used to be a solid sleep even though I was moving all the time. The older I get, the more likely it is that I'm waking up between 3-4am and up until 5ish. I should just get up when that happens, but I'm stubborn.

I'm a pretty light sleeper. And I can't sleep in. Sleeping in for me is 7 or 8am. I have to sleep with fake cricket sounds, too.

I'm a tosser-and-turner.

I'm a pretty good sleeper. I say that I sleep like "rotisserie Kara," because I turn from my right to my stomach to my left to my back... and again all night long. But I don't really wake up through any of it.

Of course, that's normal -- now that I'm 8 months pregnant, I can only sleep on my side, and wake up to go pee a couple times.

Interesting that you raised this point. I was just wondering this morning how compatible most partners are sleeping with each other. My husband and I are both pretty hearty sleepers and are definite snugglers. More often we wake up arms, legs or both entwined. I feel pretty fortunate because if one of us were a lighter or more finicky sleeper it would be pretty hard for either one of us.

According to my mom, I have not slept since the day I was born. I napped all day, and screamed all night.

Now, I mainly toss and turn, and wake every two hours, like clock work. I have not had eight uninterrupted hours of sleep in 20 years.

Last year I had surgery, and I remember the doctor saying, "Go to sleep, go to sleep, go to sleep" while I was on the table because they had a time getting me under. I came out of the anesthesia wide awake and fine even after being under for hours, and was pacing the halls shortly thereafter. Not even Atavan and Ambien kept me down.

I'm a freak.

OMG anonymous - I cannot sleep with anyone touching me IN ANY WAY. I will lay there wide awake for hours. I had a snuggly BF who couldn't sleep if he wasn't touching me and it was a total battlefield that often ended up with me hanging halfway off the bed, trying to GET AWAY already.
