Cheese is my idea of heaven

I spent Sunday at the NASFT Fancy Food Show, where I mostly ate a lot of cheese. Two really stood out as being among the best things I had ever tasted: a creamy Sardinian Sheep's Milk Pecorino Romano, smooth enough to spread; and a lively, exciting Wisconsin aged Buttermilk Blue Affinee.

All of the wonderful foods that we consumed led CC, Ish and I to compose last menus. Mine included grilled artichokes, plain raspberries and a fennel-chestnut confit from Joël Robuchon.

What would be on your last meal menu?

Warm, fresh-from-the-oven sourdough bread, crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. Smeared with whole cloves of roasted garlic and topped with a slab of triple cream brie. Accompanied by a flavorful cabernet like Clos Du Val - anything from the late 90's.

Your last menu sounds so sophisticated! Mine, on the other hand, would consist only of ice cream... Ben & Jerry's Cherry Garcia, Breyer's Mint Chocolate Chip and Friendly's Butter Crunch. Oh, and maybe a Blizzard from Dairy Queen.

Yeah, deep down, I'm still 12.

Sadly, my keyboard is covered in drool at the very mention of cheese and I am unable to type a response.

Yum.
I just ate a taco. Not as exciting as your last menu but, I like tacos.

My last meal would have to have a grilled ribeye on the menu -sorry, Suebob, I know you are a vegetarian!

I can't think about that. I am too busy drooling over the cheese. And Dairy Queen.

gahh..droool..oh yeah, hmmm, lemme think...definitely have to agree with Juliness on the triple cream Brie, but I'd spread it on crusty Italian bread instead, and top it with homemade strawberry jam...trust me on this one! Fresh buffalo mozzarella, with basil and some nice NJ tomatoes...some cassata or cannoli for dessert. My waistband is getting snug just thinking about it!

Suebob, are you still in San Diego?? E-mail me if you want to get together! debangel@nethere.com

QT - No problem. Have you tried Mark Bittman's ribeye method of leaving it out uncovered in fridge for 3-4 days before grilling? Spozed to be to die for.

Deb - Sadly, no. It was a quick trip. Next time!

No laughing, but I would have a huge shake-n-bake pork chop, really sticky and thick mac and cheese, and green beans covered in butter. For dessert, I would eat an entire pie.

Oh dear, I could write an ode to cheese, I love it so.

But. My last meal would be a rib eye steak, barely cooked (still mooing), some Unagi sushi, a steamed lobster with drawn butter and a big baked potato slathered in butter, sour cream and chives. A bottle of shiraz (Greg Norman's is particularly nice). And for dessert, an entire New York style cheesecake with raspberry coulis. And some chocolate. With some very strong, very black coffee.
