No dress code

Tonight I covered a continuation school graduation. These tend to be a little different than your typical high schools.

For instance, one of the girls I interviewed was 17 and had 2 kids. Another was 21 and had taken 3 years off to nurse her grandmother and mother as they both died. Good for them for finishing high school after all that!

But the kids are a little quirkier. One girl was wearing a black and purple satin corset - and nothing else - beneath her robe. She wants to be a welder.

I saw another graduate say "Wow, you got all dressed up!" to a young man who was wearing a clean white t-shirt and baggy black jeans. It made me wonder what he normally looks like. That bar must be set pretty dang low.

Wow.. geez. What a difference between now and when I was in school. (I know. Shoot me.) We never would have shown up in jeans and a t-shirt.. or a corset, for that matter.

In keeping with the fact that I was a snotty, obstinate, pain in the butt all throughout high school, I wore a t-shirt, jeans and flip-flops under my robe at graduation. I did dress up for my college graduation, though.

My kids were told to be comfortable cause they were going to an all night grad party afterwards. PJ bottoms seemed to be what the girls liked.

A corset wearing welder? I think we might be seeing the much anticipated Flash Dance 2. I love a chicklet with her own since of style.

Never been one for a corset. Or a welder for that matter. But together? Hum...?

What an inspiration!
