Thanksgiving Week

When I take the trash out and I turn around and see my tiny house with the light in the window and the banana leaves arching over the driveway, my heart just squinches up with happiness and I gasp at my good fortune.

My house. I don't even own it, but it makes me so happy to have this little haven on earth.

I can smell the ocean from here. I can hear my neighbors playing happy Mexican norteno music. I can walk in and see my dog sleeping on the couch drumming her big feet in time to a doggy dream.

A roof over my head. A cozy bed. A big old 1940's gas stove.

I am thankful for this particular spot on the planet. I make my life here, and I appreciate every day of it.

I like happy stapler posts. They make me warm and fuzzy inside. That's a good thing!

I know what you mean... I complain about all the little things that I hate about my house, but, at the end of the day, I am so happy and content that I know I am lucky to live here...

You always say things that I feel, but much better. It is exactly how I feel when I see all the weird furniture we accumulated and piles of paper and books and other clutter when I step into my apartment.

And that, my dear, is why you rock. :)

We used to have a banana in Portland. And I got all choked up when I could see our gushing grape leaves spilling over the back gate. Now we got nothin. Deer eat it all and the Neighborhood Gestapo won't let us put up a fence to keep them out. I carry a picture of that old house in my wallet.

It really does warm your heart to know that yes, you do have your own spot even if you find flaws with it. I love our house and can't imagine living anywhere else right now.

However, I do think it is awesome that you can smell the ocean. That scent, the real one, not candle scented, is such a natural de-stressor for me. Cheers to your place!

You said it so well. I'm thrilled to have what I do, and it helps me keep the little stuff in perspective, knowing that my big needs are met with such abundance.

Super Des said it all :> I love where I live, too, and I appreciate the reminder to reflect on that, this Thanksgiving week. There are lots of things that annoy me about this house, but you know what? I actually like the raging battle I'm losing with the grape vines (they're strangling my stone wall and lilacs). I like the kitschy '50s black tile in the bathroom. I like the wall oven that's too small to cook a turkey in. (It's not too small to cook dolmas, heh!)
